Biography
Dr. Dorian Crawford is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 32 years of experience. She first earned a MEd in Mental Health Counseling from Western Kentucky University and became a psychotherapist. After successfully working as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and behavioral consultant, she pursued a MA and PsyD from William James College (formerly Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology). Her experience includes working in the full range of mental health and human services environments: inpatient and outpatient settings, medical offices, private practice, residential treatment facilities, and the judicial system. Her boundless dedication is further established through her decade spent on the William James College faculty teaching and supervising graduate students. Additionally, she was the Training Director of the APA Psychology pre and post graduate internship program at MassGeneral Brigham in Salem, Massachusetts. Furthermore, she served on the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Psychological Association as Treasurer and then President. She is also a leader in her field, excelling as the Chief Psychologist at a state institutional setting.
Dr. Crawford has been sought out for her skill and recognized for her expertise. She has contributed extensively to online platforms like fabfitfun.com and bustle.com, as well as the b quarterly magazine and Woman’s Day Magazine. During the period surrounding Covid19, Dr. Crawford was interviewed about the looming mental health crises facing American youth for Boston Magazine. She has been asked to present webinars at international conferences and recently was the keynote presenter on autism for a training series organized as a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and Department of Mental Health. In 2023, CBS affiliate, WBZ, highlighted her accomplishments with a spotlight vignette celebrating Women’s History Month. Dr. Crawford also received an official citation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate recognizing her decades of work in the mental health field.
Dr. Crawford delivers an exemplary approach to neuropsychological testing. Leveraging her experience as both a mental health counselor and psychologist, she recognizes that the process of testing can bring about a range of emotions for clients and their families. Her approach includes a thorough intake process that appreciates every patient has a unique background and clinical presentation. Even during this early stage, Dr. Crawford spends time addressing questions and concerns to help minimize anxiety around the process. Following testing, she provides a jargon-free overview of what data results mean, coupled with an understanding that such matters can be overwhelming at first. Dr. Crawford helps clients navigate the range of emotions that may arise by providing a therapeutic holding space to allow families to absorb the information and ask clarifying questions.
